Thursday was not a great day for Oprah Winfrey – the media mogul was snubbed along with Forest Whitaker by the Golden Globes for her role in Lee Daniels’ The Butler, though she was nominated for a SAG Award this week.

Now, Oprah is on the cover of this week’s The Hollywood Reporter for their “Women In Entertainment” issue, and inside, Oprah makes a startling statement.

She told them that “if I had kids, they would hate me.” She continued, “They would have ended up on the equivalent of the ‘Oprah’ show talking about me; because something [in my life] would have had to suffer and it would’ve probably been them.”

Oprah, 59, doesn’t regret her decision choosing to focus on her career instead of starting a family, and went on to say having children had never been a dream of hers when she was younger.

Listen to more on her why she chose not to have kids in the full Entertainment Report below.
