To celebrate the highly anticipated $100 million renovation of The Fabulous Forum in Inglewood, the historic venue debuted the world’s largest vinyl record on top of the building in honor of The Eagles, who are set to reopen the venue in January.

Throughout January, The Forum will display the giant Hotel California vinyl replica (that actually spins!) on the roof of the building. Passengers flying in to LAX will be able to see the 407-foot-wide disc celebrating the biggest band to come out of California in honor of their six-show re-opening celebration on Jan. 15, 17, 18, 22, 24 and 25.

Here’s what it took to build the world’s largest vinyl record on top of the newly renovated Forum in Inglewood (via

  • 250,000 square feet of printed vinyl (a whopping 5.7 acres or nearly 4 ½ football fields!)
  • 50,000 pounds (25 tons!) of materials
  • 20,000 total man-hours to design and build
  • 15,000 LED’s for lighting
  • 5,280 feet (1 mile!) of aluminum truss
  • 5,000 nuts and bolts
  • 2000 linear feet of curved aluminum
  • 200 continuous hours (8.5 days non-stop!) to print vinyl graphics
  • 75 crew members working every day through the Christmas holiday
  • 13 engineers required to complete approved drawings
  • 10 semi trailers needed to deliver all materials

The finished product was built in just 10 days, actually spins at 17mph, is wind resistant (up to 80 mph), can be clearly seen by hundreds of thousands of arriving passengers at LAX and is visible from over 1 mile high. The design is also FAA approved.
