Jerry Seinfeld Gives His Take On Diversity In Comedy

Comedian Jerry Seinfeld spent millions on that Super Bowl commercial that featured a mini-Seinfeld reunion with cast members Jason Alexander (George Costanza) and Wayne Knight (Newman), but now he’s coming under scrutiny for his web series Comedian In Cars Getting Coffee.

In a recent interview for Buzzfeed’s Brew series, Seinfeld went on the defense when interviewer Peter Lauria brought up that he’s basically only featured white, male comedians on his web series.

“People think it’s the census or something,” Seinfeld said in the interview. “This has gotta represent the actual pie chart of America? Who cares? Funny is the world that I live in. You’re funny, I’m interested. You’re not funny, I’m not interested. I have no interest in gender or race or anything like that.”

There was also talks of only two women comedians featured on the show, in which Seinfeld replied, there are many deserving comics who aren’t making it on to the show, so he says that maybe “black people don’t like coffee that much, or maybe my driving makes women uncomfortable.”
