Dave Stewart Bringing A Rock N Roll Circus To The El Rey

Many fans know Dave Stewart from his work in the ’80s rock duo The Eurythmics with singer Annie Lennox, but this morning, Dave called in to The K-EARTH 101 Morning Show to tell us about an interesting new project he’s bringing to the El Rey theater this Friday.

Dave will be putting on a ‘Rock n Roll Circus’ at the El Rey with the help of his friends from Lucha VaVOOM. He told us about how this unique show concept came to fruition.

“I’ve always been known to be very experimental. I’ve been playing these gigs in LA where I just call it Dave Stewart and friends and having a great time,” he said. “In the same time I was making this TV show called the ‘Ringmaster’…and I asked if anyone knew a girl who could be my sort of co-host, partner, who is as crazy as me, and I got introduced to Rita D’Albert, who is the co-founder of Lucha VaVOOM, the circus.”

After collaborating with Rita for the past year, Dave explains that the two came up with a unique concept to combine music with the circus performances and characters from Lucha VaVOOM. And from that, Rock n Roll Circus was born.

The VaVOOM a Rock n Roll Circus features special guests including Lucha VaVOOM performers, contortionist Kristina Nekyi, pole princess Leigh Acosta, hula-Hoop sensation Karis, the Poubelle Twins, Hot hips Cherchez LaFemme, LVV Luchadores Dirty Sanchez special guest DJ LINA LECARO and many more surprises.

Dave also talked about when he first met Annie Lennox in the restaurant she worked in, and from there went from waitressing to becoming a rock icon after forming a musical partnership with Dave.

He also elaborates on reuniting with Annie for the first time in years at the Beatles 50th Anniversary special on CBS in February. Listen to our complete conversation with Dave Stewart below.
