This season on Dancing With The Stars, the always cool and suave Billy Dee Williams is showing off what he’s got on the dance floor as he competes for that coveted Mirrorball trophy.
At age 76, Billy Dee is the oldest star competing this season, and with two hip replacements going against him, he’s hoping to prove to viewers that neither age or ailments can keep him down.
“I hope to serve as an inspiration to those who have those ailments,” he told K-EARTH 101’s Gary Bryan and Lisa Stanley. “I’m hanging in there. I just want to see if the body still has something left.”
Though he says he “certainly can’t do any of the flips” other dancers are doing on stage, the force is strong with Billy Dee on the dance floor. He impressed fans with his Star Wars-themed cha cha on Monday that featured R2-D2, stormtroopers and ewoks in the routine. He has another dance to take on next week where he’ll be doing the tango and just had his first rehearsal on Tuesday.
Even though he can’t pull off the fancy footwork and flips like many of his competitors, he does have a huge fan base on his side that will hopefully keep him safe from elimination. He says he’s hanging on and giving it his all for this next routine, but Billy jokes that there’s a little piece of him that’s secretly hoping he’ll get kicked off first on the show, quipping, “enough is enough.”
Of course, when we have Lando Calrissian on the line with us in person, the conversation has to turn to the new Star Wars film going in to production this May. With new details just breaking this week that the film will be set 30 years after Episode VI: Return of the Jedi and is rumored to feature cameos by original cast members including Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher, we had to ask – is Billy Dee going to reprise his famed role?
“I have no idea,” he said, much to our disappointment. “We’ll see what happens. They got a whole agenda of plans for that whole thing, so I have no idea.”
Not even Lando knows what the mysterious J.J. Abrams has up his sleeve for the upcoming Star Wars: Episode VII. Even though we don’t yet know if Lando will be returning for this Star Wars reboot, fans can see him make a cameo appearance in the Lego Movie.
Until we have more details on the new Star Wars, we’ll be watching and cheering on Billy Dee as he vies for that Mirrorball trophy on Dancing With The Stars. Tune in to see his next dance routine on Monday at 8pm on ABC.
