K-EARTH 101’s Teen ‘Chopped’ Championship

This morning, we’re cooking up lots of fun at The K-EARTH 101 Morning Show’s live broadcast at Pacific Sales inside Best Buy in Costa Mesa to celebrate Bugstock 2014 on Saturday!

Not only did our lucky guests get a fabulous breakfast made by students at the culinary program at the Art Institute of California, but we held our own mini Chopped Championship in honor of our special celebrity guests, Greg Louganis and Carnie Wilson! Greg was recently a contestant on Food Network’s Chopped Tournament of the Stars, and Carnie is currently one of the finalists.

Our guest Cooking 101 founder Connie Beale brought four teenage chefs that she’s mentoring to participate in K-EARTH 101’s Teen Chopped Championship, and cook up dishes on the fly for our judges. Our chefs were Dylan, 17, Ethan, 13, Anika, 13, and Cole, 15, and they all did a fabulous job preparing imaginative dishes with the secret ingredients given to them each round!

We had three rounds in the challenge our teen chefs had to prepare for the judges, Gary Bryan, Lisa Stanley, Greg Louganis and chef Andrew Johnson from the Art Institute of California; the dishes included an appetizer, an entree and dessert.

Recap all the fun and delicious food made in our Teen Chopped Championship in the segments below!

Part 1: Our teenage chefs get their first Chopped basket challenge to create an appetizer! The ingredients includes English cucumbers, cream cheese, smoked salmon, bread, tomatoes and the secret ingredient of canned Spam.

Part 2: The chefs unveil their first dishes and our first teenage chef gets chopped. The final three chefs got their basket of ingredients for their entree challenge that contains sausage, onion, potatoes, tomatoes and chocolate covered coffee beans!

Part 3: The teen chefs unveil their entree dishes they prepared for the judges and another contestant gets chopped. The ingredients for the dessert challenge included eggs, lemons, heavy cream, pre-made cake and jalapeno jelly and English tea.

Part 4: Our judges taste-test the teen chefs desserts and decide the winner of the K-EARTH 101 Teen Chopped Championship! We want to congratulate the winner, Anika, for doing such an amazing job, and all the teen contestants who participated in the challenge! We can tell you one thing – it was not an easy choice!
