Today's Tickets @ 2 Song: "Do They Know Its Christmas" by Band Aid

By her own and her doctor’s accounts, actress Valerie Harper should no longer be here. Having been diagnosed with a rare, incurable brain disease in early 2013, Valerie has since defied all odds of her diagnosis and continues to live life to the fullest.

Valerie is living proof that cancer doesn’t have to end your dreams. Just after being diagnosed with terminal brain cancer and given three months to live, Valerie signed up to be on Dancing With The Stars. Now over a year later, Valerie acknowledges that she “wasn’t supposed to be here last Easter” let alone today, but that isn’t slowing her down any time soon.

Valerie joined The K-EARTH 101 Morning Show to talk about her upcoming guest role on the Hallmark original series, which shares its name with a Stevie Wonder hit, Signed, Sealed Delivered. The episode guest starring Valerie is fittingly titled “Time To Start Living,” which she tells us was written by Touch By An Angel‘s Martha Williamson with her in mind for the part.

The series is about four postal detectives who track down the intended recipients of undeliverable mail and stars Ugly Betty‘s Eric Mabius and actress Kristin Booth. In the series premiere on April 20th, Valerie will be featured as the detectives supervisors “who comes in to evaluate what they’re doing.”

“I’ve heard things about them that they’re not supposed to be opening mail, and you aren’t, but there comes a moment when you say ‘I must open this mail because this looks important’,” she said on the show’s premise. “Maybe there’s a clue inside that we can’t get from the envelope.”

The best part is, it’s a show for the entire family.

“You can watch it with your kids of any age…but I don’t think it’s sicky-sweet, which I find sometimes or preachy,” she said, adding, “It’s going to be charming, it’s going to be funny, it’s going to be gripping, it’s going to be dangerous [Martha] has all these things going.”

Since she became ill, Valerie has given fans inspiration by actually being in the public eye more over the past year than she has in quite some time. She says it was the cancer diagnosis that fueled her decision to take on Dancing With The Stars along with her husband’s encouragement in order to “give people some hope and tell them to keep moving their butts and it might help them.”

During her time on DWTS, Valerie tells us that her cancer wasn’t even an issue on her ability to perform. Her knees, on the other hand, were a different story.

“Cancer no problem. Knees dead,” she joked. “Oh my God, limping, crying, hot baths at night, going to the chiropractor.”

Catch Valerie Harper on the series premiere of Signed, Sealed, Delivered on April 20th at 8pm on The Hallmark Channel.
