Executive producer of TMZ Sports, Evan Rosenblum, joined us on the phone this morning to talk about the unraveling Donald Sterling scandal that the site blew wide open this week. TMZ Sports broke the story after publishing the explosive audio to its site on Friday in which the Clippers owner is allegedly making racist remarks to an acquaintance, V. Stiviano.

Though Rosenblum can’t reveal the source who gave the site the recording of Sterling, he says the team was scrambling to authenticate the audio before blowing the lid off the story.

“Our jaws hit the floor. We just knew that we had to do whatever we could to authenticate it and make sure it was legit before we put it up,” explained Evan. “So we spent eight days vetting this thing like crazy, making phone calls to every single person involved, including Donald Sterling.”

Evan goes on to say that they called Sterling “multiple times for several days” before publishing the audio, but he was “radio silent” and had no comment on the recording. So how did they authenticate the audio before exposing it for the whole world on the website?

“We were one hundred percent. We spoke to a bunch of people who were in a position to authenticate and did,” he said.

As for what happens to Sterling next, NBA Commissioner Adam Silver will determine the fate of disgraced Clippers owner Donald Sterling in a press conference at 11am Tuesday.

“We’re hearing that it’s going to be something along the lines of a one year suspension or indefinite suspension, but we’re told that it’s not going to be kicking him out of the league effective immediately,” said Evan.

While the public awaits for the decision from the NBA on Sterling’s punishment, many are calling for a boycott of the Clippers game tonight, including the coach of Golden State Warriors.

“If no one goes to the game and no one buys a ticket, it’s just going to force the league to do whatever they can. If people don’t show up to the game, they’re speaking with their wallets and with their dollars, and I think that’s more effective,” said Evan.
