One day following the NBA’s announcement that Clippers owner Donald Sterling is banned for life from any association with the team, fans and people all around the world came together in support that helped push the team to a 113-103 victory over the Warriors on Tuesday night and take a 3-2 lead in their first-round playoff series.

This morning, friend of the morning show and late night host Arsenio Hall called in with his insightful take on the whole situation and how he chose to address the scandal on his late night show.

Arsenio handled the Sterling scandal the best way he knew how – with humor. When the scandal broke this week, Arsenio turned to his audience to get even with the Clippers owner by encouraging them to take a ‘Sterling Selfie’ of themselves next to a Sterling standup to “see how he likes being in photos with lots of black people.”

“This was a crazy week to be a black comedian, because it’s a real slippery slope. You don’t want to ignore it, but at the same time, there’s something about racism that can leave hatred in your stomach,” he explained. “I wanted to send people to bed with a smile on their face, but at the same time, you gotta deal with these issues.”

For Arsenio, the most shocking thing about the scandal was that “everybody’s pretending to be shocked” about his alleged racist remarks.

“Every man like me has sat around and watched award shows knowing who he was and watching him get awards,” he said. “I’m so glad the charade in L.A. is over.”

Arsenio, who is close friends with the man in the middle of this scandal, Magic Johnson, gave some insight on the rumors that the former Laker is interested in buying the Clippers if/when Sterling is forced to sell.

“Magic and a couple friends have been talking about it, and obviously he has a lot on his plate,” he said. “You hear people talk about Donald…and I’ve seen situations where he dealt with athletes like slaves in the showers, showing them off like cattle….but when you’re around him, he’s such a great actor. I think the thing that Magic hated the most was that this guy was such a phoney.”

You can catch The Arsenio Hall Show weeknights at 11pm on KTLA 5. Listen to Arsenio’s take on the Donald Sterling scandal in the full interview below.
