Now twenty years after the infamous O.J. Simpson trial, Dateline NBC is taking a look back at the high-profile case that divided the country in a special The People vs. O.J. Simpson: What The Jury Never Heard airing tonight at 9pm.

Dateline reporter Josh Mankiewicz sat down with many of those involved in the case for the special, which provides new insights to the case. Josh joined us this morning to talk about what to expect in tonight’s special, saying there are many things that the jury never heard during the case.

“The story of that case is one of overwhelming evidence against Mr. Simpson. The defense chose to make it stand on a mountain of blood evidence, unfortunately shows like CSI and NCIS hadn’t done the prosecutor’s job for them way they have now,” explained Josh. “Today Mr. Simpson I would think would be convicted rather quickly because juries have now taken on faith that DNA equals guilt, but back then they didn’t.”

He adds that he prosecution didn’t play many of the cards they had, including one a women who saw Simpson near the crime scene just minutes after the murder, but never testified in the case. There was also a man who saw Simpson at the airport and saw him throw a small duffel bag into the trashcan. So why didn’t the prosecution use this evidence against Simpson?

“I think they believed that the blood evidence would do the job for them,” he said.

In tonight’s special, Josh speaks with both those witnesses about what they saw that day, and says that it will leave you wondering how Simpson got away with the crime.

“You’re gonna wonder what when wrong,” he said.
