It happened, Los Angeles. The LA Kings took the Stanley Cup in a double-overtime win 3-2 over the New York Rangers on Friday the 13th. It’s the team’s second Stanley Cup championship in three years, and now the entire city is celebrating their unbelievable season.

To talk about the Kings’ Stanley Cup win, President of the team’s Business Operations and former NHL champ Luc Robitaille joined us on the phone this morning just before heading out to the victory parade in downtown LA later.

“It’s truly amazing, it’s been incredible,” said Luc on the Kings’ win.

Luc tells us the team has been celebrating all weekend long, with some of the players taking the Stanley Cup trophy home with them, saying the first to take the cup was the team’s captain, Dustin Brown.

“It was Dustin right away. It was Saturday morning, I remember seeing pictures of his kid eating out of it and stuff like that,” he laughed.

He tells us that all the players on the team will get to spend an entire day with the Stanley Cup. Many of the players throw parties with the cup and celebrate by eating and drinking out of it. But Luc notes a big hockey superstition in the league that it’s bad luck to touch the cup when you haven’t won it.

“A lot of players will never touch it until they’ve won it,” explained Luc. “Once you get it, every day there’s a party with it, so a lot of times guys will invite their friends who play on another team and those guys will never even touch it or take a picture with it.”

And being the good guy he is, Luc hasn’t forgotten the promise he made to The K-EARTH 101 Morning Show about bringing the Stanley Cup in studio once all the players have their day with it.

“I didn’t forget…I told Mike Alteri, he’s in charge of our PR, I said I opened my big mouth and I promised them, they have it on tape,” he joked.
