Jeff Foxworthy On The Redneck Way He Fixed His Broken People’s Choice Award

The original Redneck, comedian Jeff Foxworthy joined us on the phone to crack some jokes and talk about his upcoming comedy night at the O.C. Fair this Saturday!

What better place than the county fair for Jeff to take the stage and crack his famous ‘you know you’re a redneck when…’ jokes, and he tells us the fair is where he gets a lot his material.

“I have to write 365 new redneck jokes every year for the page a day calendar,” he said. “The fair is good for half of it.”

As he grows older, Jeff notes that his material has changed focus from hot chicks to topics like medical issues, something he’s experienced in his own life.

“You laugh, I was actually on stage last weekend…well I’ve had my first kidney stone for the last three and a half weeks,” he says. “I thought I knew pain…I was reading online that doctors put a kidney stone – they said it was the equivalent of a woman giving birth with no medication.”

Ouch. Jeff of course had a good sense of humor about the whole thing, joking that he reached into the toilet to snatch the kidney stone when it passed to keep it as a trophy.

And speaking of trophies, Jeff told us a hilarious story about his father breaking his People’s Choice Award, which costs $5,000 to replace. His dad dropped the award, which he says weighs about 15 pounds and is made of crystal, and Jeff did what any redneck would do – busted out the glue.

“I have the only People’s Choice Award that actually super glued back together,” he joked. “I wasn’t going to pay $5,000 to buy myself a trophy!”

In between performances and passing kidney stones, Jeff is keeping busy as the host of American Bible Challenge on the Game Show Network, which just wrapped its third season.

“The thing that makes this show cool, is I think it’s the only game show nobody keeps the money. They take what they win and they turn around and they love on somebody in their community,” he said.

He noted that “whether it’s taking care of somebody who’s sick or feeding people or whatever,” winners on the show use the money for good.

“It’s not just a show about having head knowledge, but it’s people actually getting out there and loving on people,” he said.
