Today's Tickets @ 2 Song: "Do They Know Its Christmas" by Band Aid
By Britt Bickel

Last week, we told you about the incredible honor singer-songwriter Linda Ronstadt would receive from President Barack Obama. On Monday, the President awarded Ronstadt the National Medal of Arts, the nation’s top honor for the arts, in a ceremony at the White House.

Unlike her induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame earlier this year, which she did not attend due to her Parkinson’s disease, Ronstadt was able to attend the ceremony in person. According to Billboard, Ronstadt was ushered to the East Room by a military aid in a wheelchair, but walked on stage to accept her medal from the President.

Ronstadt was honored for her “one of a kind voice and her decades of remarkable music” on stage. The statement read during the ceremony also noted that Ronstadt “defied expectations to conquer American radio waves and help pave the way for generations of women artists.”

Ronstadt’s influence has touched dozens of artists and people alike for generations with her unique voice and songwriting. Even the President admitted he was a big fan of Ronstadt’s growing up. After her honor, President Obama joked to the audience, “I told Linda Ronstadt that I had a little crush on her back in the day.”

Ronstadt was one of eleven recipients in a ceremony for the National Medal of Arts and National Humanities Medal awards. Others to receive the honor included DreamWorks exec Jeffrey Katzenberg, documentary filmmaker Albert Maysles, L.A.’s own visual artist James Turrell and more.
