As family, friends, co-stars and fans around the world continue to mourn Robin Williams following shocking news of his death Monday, late night hosts expressed their deepest condolences in memory of the actor.

Conan O’Brien was in the middle of taping Monday night’s episode when he found out about his death, and took a moment at the end of the show to break the terrible news to his studio audience. Along with guest Will Arnett and co-host Andy Richter, a visibly shaken Conan said a few words in honor of the funnyman.

“This is absolutely shocking and horrifying and so upsetting on every level,” said O’Brien, via TIME. “We’re at the end of the show and it felt like it needed to be acknowledged.”

“He was an amazingly kind and generous person and our thoughts go out to his family,” added Richter.

“As funny as he was, he was even better as a person, he was one of the loveliest and sweetest and kindest guys I’ve ever worked with,” added Arnett. “It’s a major, major loss for everybody.”

You can hear a collective gasp from the audience as Conan breaks the news on air.
