A new awards show that shines the spotlight on the classic rock genre alone is headed to Los Angeles from across the pond this November.
The Classic Rock Roll of Honour awards ceremony comes way of the UK and hosted by Classic Rock magazine, reports LA Weekly. Now in its 10th year, the ceremony is moving stateside for the very first time, and honoring LA’s favorite 60s classic rock group The Doors with the Inspiration award – the equivalent to a lifetime achievement award.
Surviving members Robby Krieger and John Densmore will be accepting the award and issued a statement regarding the honor:
“In 1965 and ’66, our brothers across the pond were making a lot of beautiful noise, and we attempted to create our own magical sound out here on the West Coast. It’s really nice to see them now turning around, coming back here to L.A., and recognizing what the four of us accomplished together on a beach in L.A. To receive this award on our own soil, from the Brits, is an honor, and we take it as a sign of respect, so — thank you, from us and on behalf of our fallen brothers, Jim and Ray.”
According to the award’s website, they ceremony will be a “night where the great and good of high-voltage rock’n’roll will get together to celebrate talent both old and new – from those bands making their debut on the scene, to those who began it all.”
This year’s nominees include classic artists like Bruce Springsteen, Tom Petty, Pink Floyd, Kiss, Queen + Adam Lambert and many more up for awards.
Fans can also vote for the winner in major categories including Album Of The Year, Best New Band, Reissue Of The Year, Band Of The Year and Film Of The Year. Online voting runs until Oct. 22 on awards.classicrock.teamrock.com.
