How To Make The Most Of Autumn In LA

People who don’t live here think Los Angeles doesn’t really have different seasons, but we know better. You can feel it when the air changes in the fall and we have those spectacular days with bright blue skies, temps around 73, and cool, crisp breezes. Yep, it’s Autumn in LA!

Here are some fun things you can do around the Southland in the lovely days between the end of summer and the start of the Christmas season:

  • Put on a sweater and walk the dog. It only happens for a few months so I like to make the most of being able to wear some of those sweatshirts and sweaters that have been folded away in the closet since last year. You can drag out your favorite old college or team sweatshirt and wear it just about anywhere¬†this time of year. All the locals have been wondering when it would get cold enough to put one on. You might enjoy some of my favorite fashion sites that are full of gorgeous clothes, especially this time of year: Style.com, Fashionista, Who What Wear, and GQ Fashion.

  • Go to any one of a gazillion Halloween events in the Southland. Universal Studios Hollywood has a Walking Dead attraction this year, Disneyland has Mickey’s Halloween Party, Knott’s Berry Farm has zombie hunting as part of Knott’s Scary Farm, and Magic Mountain is always a thrill. Hollywood Forever Cemetery’s Dia de los Muertos¬†is a perennial favorite. One of the many cool things we have in LA for October is the LA Haunted Hayride, and new this year the Halloween Horror Campout in Griffith Park. Yikes!

  • Make some fall season food to go with NFL football 4 times a week. Hey, why not? It’s the only time of year when people actually eat chili that’s not part of a burger at Tommy’s. You can have crazy-fun making soups and stews, roasts, pies and cakes, pasta and side dishes, even hot instead of cold cocktails this time of year. Check out some of my favorite food and recipe blogs: Joy the Baker, Food52, Serious Eats, and Foodista.

  • Last thing, and they’re not paying me or anything like that, but this Angry Orchard Cinnful Apple seasonal hard cider with cinnamon is great! If I had a fireplace, I’d curl up in front of it with a glass of this and watch a scary movie. No fireplace so, I’ll just light a up bunches and bunches of candles. It works, too!

So, it’s our Autumn in LA. Have fun! After all, it’s now officially too cold to go to the beach!
