Fox News host Chris Wallace has issued an apology to singe Kelly Clarkson after making offensive comments about her weight during an interview on the Mike Gallagher Show Friday.
According to Billboard, Wallace was a guest on Gallagher’s show where the two were having a conversation about weight and the topic ultimately turned to Clarkson.
At first, it seemed like Wallace was trying to take the high road when Gallagher brought up that Clarkson has put on some weight saying “really, do we want to talk about some of your friends? Kelly Clarkson’s got a lovely voice.”
However, Wallace then added that “she could stay off the deep dish pizza for a little while…” Wallace took a lot of heat for his fat-shaming comments from people on social media and even fellow Fox News anchor Greta Van Susteren, who called Wallace out in a message on her blog.
Wallace has since apologized to Clarkson, saying “I sincerely apologize to Kelly Clarkson for my offensive comment. I admire her remarkable talent and that should have been the focus of any discussion about her.”
Clarkson recently gave birth to her first child in June and hasn’t taken all her baby weight off since. She recently appeared on The Ellen Show Friday and addressed comments about her weight.
“I love how people think that’s new — like, ‘Welcome to the past 13 years’,” she said on Ellen. “Yeah, I was the biggest girl on [American Idol], too. And I wasn’t big, but people would call me big because I was the biggest one on Idol, and I’ve kind of always gotten that.”
