Top Ten Memorable Moments In David Letterman’s Late Night History

Everybody’s talking about the end of an era for David Letterman, who has been a fixture in late night TV for more than three decades.

Tonight, Letterman signs off for the last time on his Late Show, and after years of stupid pet tricks, on the street stunts and clever conversations, Letterman will retire as one of the most admired and influential figures in TV history.

In celebration of his final show, here’s a look back at the Top Ten Moments in Letterman History (via Good Morning America).

10. Jerry Lawler vs. Andy Kaufman (1982): The pro wrestler and quirky comedian were guests on Letterman which ended in Lawler slapping Kaufman after a heated conversation.

9. Drew Barrymore’s desk dance (1999): the actress gives Letterman a sexy desk dance on his birthday and flashes a surprised Dave.

8. Sonny & Cher reunite (1987): Dave reunited Sonny and Cher on Late Night.

7. First show after 9/11 (2001): A solemn Dave does his first show after 9/11 and tries to lift the spirits of America with laughter.

6. Madonna (1994): Who could forget Madonna’s appearance on Late Show when she couldn’t stop swearing.

5. “Just Bulbs” (1983): Dave visits a store called “Just Bulbs” to discover they only sell light bulbs.

4. Joaquin Phoenix’s bizarre interview (2010): Lost in his mock doc persona, Phoenix spaces out on Dave in an awkward and bizarre interview.

3. Dave becomes a dad (2003): Dave is a proud papa after his son Harry is born.

2. The final episode of Late Night (1993): Tom Hanks appeared as his last guest on Late Night before he took over the Late Show on CBS.

1. Tina Fey’s strip down (2015): The top memorable moment just happened on the show when comedian Tina Fey stripped off her ‘Last Dress Ever’ and gave it to Dave as a keepsake.
