(CBSLA.com) — Twitter’s 140-character limit is one of the social media site’s trademark features. It’s the social media platform that’s all about being succinct.
So when a report revealed Tuesday Twitter is developing a product that will allow for longer tweets, the news circulated quickly.
Technology website Re/code broke the news, saying the new product would be able to publish “long-form content” to Twitter.
Users can already post blocks of text with the help of third-party apps but they are images, not actual text, making it hard to search.
Twitter executives have been considering removing links and user handles from the way it measures the 140-character limit, Re/code attributes to multiple sources.
Time will tell. For now, the company is remaining tight-lipped.
