Johnny Depp has donated the first checks from his divorce settlement with Amber Heard.
Heard said she was planning on donating the $7 million settlement she got from Depp to two charities, The Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles and The American Liberties Union.
On Wednesday both charities said they received checks. Depp’s people told “Us Weekly,” “Following Amber Heard’s announcement that her divorce settlement was to be divided equally and gifted to the charities, Depp sent the first of multiple installments of those monies to each charity in the name of Amber Heard, which when complete will honor the full amount of Ms. Heard’s pledge.”
However, Heard is not happy that he didn’t give her the money directly. His people say it’s simple, he decided to cut out the middle man and donate the settlement money directly to the charities in a series of installments.
Heard’s people say, while she, “Appreciates Johnny Depp’s novel interest in supporting two of her favorite charities” calling it “great and unexpected news, they are rejecting Depp’s payment plan claiming he was attempting to change the terms of their settlement.”
They also said, “If Johnny wishes to change the settlement agreement, we must insist that he honor the full amount by donating 14 million dollars to the charities, which after accounting for his tax deductions is equal to his 7 million payment obligation to Amber.”
