Glamour magazine caused a bit of a scandal when they announced who would be receiving one of its prestigious Women of the Year Award…Bono.

The U2 frontman was being recognized for his years of worldwide humanitarian work, but that didn’t fly with many who accused the magazine of hypocrisy for honoring a man instead of an actual woman.

At the awards ceremony, Bono admitted the whole situation was “a bit ridiculous” and he even took a little time to read some of the most hilarious mean tweets he received over the past few weeks.

“It’s just so inspiring how ‘she’ overcame the adversity of being a millionaire white dude,” he read aloud.
