This morning, comedian and Cristela star Gabriel Iglesias joined The K-EARTH 101 Morning Show in studio to talk about his upcoming stand up shows at Nokia Theatre L.A. Live and Honda Center, his new show Cristela, and his role in the Magic Mike sequel.

Part one:

Just call this year, The Year of Fluffy. Having made the transition from stand up comic to movie star to now sitcom star, Gabriel Iglesias has certainly made a name for himself in the year 2014. He’s  currently featured on the new ABC comedy Cristela, where he plays Alberto and is in love with Cristela and relentlessly tries to get her to marry him.

“I got thirteen episodes to make it happen,” joked Gabriel. So will Alberto and Cristela ever fall in love on the show?

“I think it’s one of those where eventually if it happens, I think it’s the whole jumping of the shark thing,” he said, noting that the comedy from the show is about them not being together.

Gabriel has also made huge strides in his film career having just recently starred in his own feature stand up film The Fluffy Movie this year, as well as voiced characters in Planes, The Nut Job and got a featured role in Magic Mike and its upcoming sequel.

On what to expect in his role in Magic Mike XXL, due out in summer of 2015, Gabriel tells us fans of the movie will be in for a ride for the sequel.

“This movie, they stepped it up. If you loved the first one, you’re really gonna love the second one, because everybody’s naked in this movie,” he revealed. “It gets really intense and they take the show on the road, and there’s so much happening in this film.”

So how has life changed since all this fame and success happened over the past years? Gabriel says his life is a lot busier these days.

“The only thing that’s different is when I go out I get recognized a lot faster, and I’m a lot busier, that’s for sure,” he said. So what about his family hitting him up for cash now that’s he’s hit it big? He jokes “I’ve already disowned the cash ones.”

“I come from a big family and it’s funny because they’d always say ‘don’t let success change you…’ and then they’re the ones that change,” he said.

Gabriel is returning to the stage for three big stand up shows in SoCal coming up in December. You can catch him on Dec. 26 at the Honda Center and Dec. 27, 28 at the Nokia Theatre L.A. Live. For tickets and details, visit You can also see him on Cristela every Friday night at 8:30 on ABC.
