American Airlines is staying committed to its face mask policy.

A video of a passenger, now dubbed a “Karen,” has gone viral after she was escorted off of a flight for refusing to wear a face mask.

In the video, originally captured by passenger Jordan Slade, a round of applause can be heard from passengers as the woman grabs her belongings and walks off. Two American Airlines flight attendants are seen waiting for her at the exit.

According to the Daily Mail, the unnamed woman was flying from Ohio to North Carolina on July 19. Slade said that she claimed to have a medical condition preventing her from wearing a mask.

As she de-boarded the plane, passengers can be heard telling her to “just leave” because they have flights to catch.

When the applause breaks out, the woman angrilly snaps back: “you can clap all you want.”

Slade said the woman caused other problems prior to boarding including demanding to be boarded first.

“She was argumentative from the gate,” Slade told the publication. “She demanded to be boarded first and was causing an obvious scene. Once boarded, she was making phone calls and arguing with the attendant when asked to put her phone away.”

In addition to the flight staff, passengers allegedly asked the woman to put her mask on but she refused.

“Another passenger even got up to confront her about her behavior with no mask,” Slade added.

American Airlines did not return a request for comment from the outlet.

Slade said she posted the video on TikTok because it was a huge flight disruption. It has since gone viral with many social media users questioning how the woman was even allowed to board without a proper face covering.

Another user claimed to be on the flight and said she had a mask on to get onto the aircraft but once the door closed, she took it off.

As of May 11th, American Airlines made mask coverings over the mouth and nose mandatory for all passengers as soon as they come aboard to help curb the spread of coronavirus. Children under two years old are exempt.

“Be sure your face covering is on before you board the plane and wear it during your flight. If you decline to wear one, you may be denied boarding and future travel on American,” the policy states.

The move came after pleas from pilots and flight attendants to enforce the policy among travelers.

Recently, a man was forced off a Spirit Airlines flight heading from New York to Florida after he wouldn’t put on a face covering, airline officials said.

Video of the man speaking to Port Authority police while seated aboard the plane was posted to Twitter. Passengers aboard the flight can be heard asking the officer to let the man stay on the flight.
