'Saturday Night Live' Cast Honors Kobe Bryant

February 2, 2020

"Saturday Night Live" wanted to remember Kobe Bryant in a special way by sharing a sweet tribute.

While the tragedy of Bryant's death wasn’t brought up directly, host J.J. Watt and some cast members used the closing credits to remember the NBA icon.

During the end of the show, Watt thanked everyone for coming out. He also wore a Los Angeles Lakers jersey, featuring Bryant’s number 24. The host also crumpled up a note and tossed it like a free throw.

Cast members Melissa Villaseñor and Chris Redd also rocked some Kobe gear. Villaseñor wore a Lakers sweater, and Redd wore a red shirt with Bryant's face on it.

Fans immediately took to Twitter to share how sweet the tribute was, praising the show for doing it.

This week, Vanessa Bryant released a heartbreaking tribute to her husband and daughter Gianna. She posted a sentimental photo honoring her "angels" as the Lakers played their first game since their tragic deaths earlier this week.

Although she did not attend the game against the Portland Trailblazers on Friday, the 37-year-old shared an image of Kobe and Gianna's jerseys on their court-side seats at Staples Center alongside a bouquet of roses.
