Dwayne Johnson Discusses His Battle With Depression

April 3, 2018

You almost always see Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson smiling, but there was a time he wasn't.

In a new interview with Britain's Express, Dwayne revealed he battled depression after his mother attempted suicide when he was just 15 years old.

He and his mother lived in Nashville at the time and she couldn't pay the rent.

He describes the scene as they were driving on the highway when she pulled over and got out of the car and began to walk into the traffic. He quickly grabbed her, saving her life.

She survived but he fell into a depression where he said he didn't want to do anything and spent most of his days crying.

Luckily he says his mom has no memory of this incident, but sadly he does.

He tells the magazine, "The struggle is real, we all go thru the sludge, and depression never discriminates. You're not alone."

The candid comments about depression from such a successful actor, known for his bubbly personality and tough guy persona brought on a lot of responses on twitter, all positive.

The Rock is so appreciative of his fans responded saying, "Thank you and don't be afraid to open up especially us dudes have a tendency to keep it in."
